Lucy’s goal as an artist is to acknowledge the interconnected relationship between nature and the mind while resisting the impulse to make either fully knowable or tameable. Through abstracted, ineffable forms and environments, she sets aside preconceived assumptions about what nature is supposed to look like, moving toward something more raw, unfamiliar, and incomprehensible. Her paintings exist somewhere between reality and imagination, seductive and haunting, alien yet familiar. Forms dissolve into tendrils, waves, and currents, questioning what it means to feel whole and contained within a body, and what happens when the boundaries between body, mind, and environment begin to loosen. Her work is grounded in phenomenology, emphasizing the physical and emotional experience of moving through the world rather than what can be easily understood, categorized, or contained. She is interested in the traces that encounters leave on us, in the possibility that we are not only seeing the world, but are also being seen and changed by it. Nature becomes not a passive landscape to be observed or controlled, but a complex vessel of knowledge that chooses when to whisper what it holds, revealing some things while keeping others hidden and beyond our reach. Ultimately, Lucy creates spaces that cannot be located entirely in reality or imagination, but can still be felt as tangible experiences.
